Southington Bank Robbery and Kidnapping

On June 18, 2017 at approximately 1315 hours the Southington Police Department received a call for a hold up alarm at the People’s Bank located inside Stop and Shop (505 North Main St.). It was reported that a male suspect, later identified as Norman Renaldi, allegedly entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding the money. Renaldi exited the store and got into a red minivan operated by a second suspect, later identified as Lamar McCarthy. The Vehicle left the area headed northbound on Rt. 10. An officer saw the vehicle and attempted to stop it in the area of the Walmart Store (235 Queen St.). The vehicle did a u-turn striking another vehicle and then fled southbound on Rt. 10 where in the area of the intersection of North Main St. and Curtiss St. the vehicle had a tire go flat. The vehicle continued to drive until it reached the area of the Shell Gas station located at 212 Main St. where it pulled to the side of the road. There Renaldi and McCarthy fled the vehicle. Renaldi was taken into custody by police. Allegedly McCarthy got into a white Jeep Cherokee that was at one of the gas pumps at the Shell Station and drove away leaving the male who had been pumping gas at that location. The male’s wife and grandchildren (ages 6 and 3) were still inside the vehicle at the time McCarthy fled the area in it. A short time later the female and the two children were released from the vehicle at a commuter lot off of Exit 26 of I-84 near the Cheshire/Waterbury line. They were not injured.

The Southington Police Department currently has an active arrest warrant for McCarthy charging him with three (3) counts of Kidnapping in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the Second Degree, Larceny in the Second Degree, Robbery Involving an Occupied Vehicle, and Engaging in Pursuit. McCarthy's last known address is 9 Gorham Avenue, Bloomfield, CT and is described as being a black male, 5' 9" tall, 165 lbs, and being 31 years of age. If anyone has information on McCarthy's whereabouts or sees him please call 911 or your local police department.

Norman Renaldi, age 44 of Dogleg Road, Meriden, CT, was taken into custody, processed, and charged with 53a-134; Robbery in the First Degree, 53a-123; Larceny in the Second Degree, 53a-49/53a-94; Criminal Attempt to Commit Kidnapping in the Second Degree (Three Counts), 53a-49/53a-136a; Criminal Attempt to Commit Robbery Involving Occupied Motor Vehicle - Carjacking, 14-223(b); Engaging in Pursuit, 53a-167a; Interfering with an Officer, and 21a-279(a); Illegal Possession of Narcotics. Renaldi is being held on a $500,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear at the Bristol Court on 06/19/17.

It is alleged that Renaldi entered the bank, handed the teller a note demanding money and then exited the bank with the money. It was reported that $12,669.00 was taken during the robbery and during the course of the investigation; Officers recovered all of the money that was reported stolen.
